Take Profit Trader rules across the Test, PRO and PRO+ stages

Take Profit Trader rules change three times on the way to a payout. The Test measures drawdown at the daily close. The PRO account measures it intraday, in real time, including open profit. PRO+ goes back to end of day, but on live money and by invitation only. That middle switch is the one to plan for before your first PRO session.

We read every number below in Take Profit Trader's help center on October 4, 2026. Several of those pages were edited in late September, so check them again before you buy or request a withdrawal.

Take Profit Trader rules in one paragraph

You pay a monthly subscription for a Test with no time limit. Hit the profit target in at least 3 trading days, with no single day at 50% or more of your net profit, and without touching the end-of-day trailing drawdown. Pass, pay a one-time $130 activation fee, and you get a PRO account: still simulated, an 80/20 split, and withdrawals from day one once your balance clears a buffer. PRO+ is a live account with a 90/10 split that TPT offers at its own discretion.

The Test: profit target, end-of-day drawdown and the consistency rule

The Take Profit Trader Test rules come down to four checks.

Drawdown. The Take Profit Trader drawdown on the Test is end-of-day: the minimum account balance trails your highest closing balance and stops once it reaches the starting balance. On a 50K it starts at $48,000. Close a day at $51,200 and it moves to $49,200. Close later days lower and it stays there. The catch: TPT liquidates the moment your balance touches that minimum, realized or unrealized. End of day is when the line moves, not when it stops mattering.

Minimum days. At least 3 trading days, where a trading day is any day with one trade. Hit the target in two and you still need a third.

Consistency. Your best day has to be under 50% of net profit. Miss it and you have not failed; your target simply rises to more than twice your best day. A 50K example:

DayP&LNet profitBest day share
1+$1,800$1,800100%
2+$700$2,50072%
3+$600$3,10058%
4+$600$3,70048.6%

After day 3 you are past the $3,000 target but not through. The new goal is anything above $3,600. Day 4 does it. The full wording is on TPT's Rule 5: Be Consistent page, and we walk through the general version in prop firm consistency rule explained.

Hours. Trade from 6 PM to 5 PM Eastern. No position carries into the next day; TPT closes anything open at 4:55 PM ET. If your product closes earlier, or a holiday shortens the session, a position still open is liquidated.

PRO accounts: buffer, daily payouts and what changes after you pass

This is where the Take Profit Trader PRO rules part ways with the Test. Four things change.

  1. Drawdown goes intraday. The PRO minimum balance trails your peak including unrealized gains, in real time, until it reaches the starting balance. Our trailing drawdown guide shows why that is a different game.
  2. News becomes a rule. You must be flat, with no working orders, from one minute before to one minute after FOMC statements (Wednesdays, 2:00 PM ET), Non-Farm Payrolls (Fridays, 8:30 AM ET) and CPI.
  3. You must trade weekly. At least one round trip each calendar week, Sunday to Friday.
  4. Withdrawals start. Day one, from profit above the buffer.

Here is the intraday drawdown on a fresh PRO 50K. The minimum starts at $48,000. A long runs to +$1,200 open profit, so the minimum climbs to $49,200 while you are still in the trade. You close it for +$300. Balance $50,300, minimum $49,200. Your room just fell from $2,000 to $1,100 on a winning trade.

Now the Take Profit Trader payout math. The buffer equals the max drawdown, so on a 50K you need a $52,000 balance before anything can come out. Say you reach $53,000. You can take the $1,000 above the buffer and you receive 80%, or $800. The balance drops back to $52,000, and because your peak already pushed the minimum up to the $50,000 start, you keep the full $2,000 of room.

Withdrawals from a Tradovate PRO account to the TPT wallet are now automated and take seconds, as long as you are flat when you submit. The dashboard balance updates between 8 and 9 PM ET. From the wallet to your bank, TPT reviews each request for up to 12 business hours. US banks are paid through Plaid, usually in real time but sometimes in 1 to 2 business days; PayPal and Wise within 12 business hours. The details sit on TPT's PRO Account Profit Split and Withdrawal Rules page.

Profit inside the buffer only comes out if you close the PRO account for good. Then you keep 50% of it if the account traded 60 days or fewer, 80% after that.

PRO+ and live capital

PRO+ is a live account routed to the exchange. TPT invites traders to it after reviewing consistency, risk management and discipline; there is no published threshold. What changes:

  • 90/10 profit split and no buffer before withdrawal.
  • End-of-day drawdown again, starting from a $0 balance. A 50K PRO becomes a PRO+ with a −$2,000 limit that trails realized end-of-day profit up to $0.
  • $5,000 of your PRO profit is frozen while the PRO+ is active. Anything above it can be withdrawn at the 80% PRO split.
  • After the upgrade, all trading and withdrawals happen on PRO+.

Traders whose record shows max-size trades, fast drawdowns or blown loss limits can be placed in PRO+ Development instead. On a 50K that means 2 minis or 20 micros, a $1,000 soft daily loss limit that pauses you, and a $1,250 end-of-day drawdown. Lose $10,000 of TPT's capital across Development accounts in a rolling 30 days and new purchases pause for 30 days.

Fees, resets and activation costs

SizeTest resetPRO reset (up to 3 per account)
25K$79$449
50K$99$649
75K$139$799
100K$169$999
150K$199$1,499

The PRO activation fee is a one-time $130, and some promo codes cover it. The Test subscription renews monthly on your purchase date and does not cancel itself when you break a rule; cancel it in the dashboard. It ends on its own once you pass. TPT's help center does not list the monthly Test prices and we could not read them from its site, so check the purchase page for today's number.

One small fee worth knowing: a wallet withdrawal of $250 or less costs $50. Above $250 there is no TPT fee. PayPal may take its own.

Where traders blow the Test (and how to avoid it)

These are the mistakes the Take Profit Trader rules punish fastest.

  • Treating end of day as safe. The line moves at the close, but an open loss that touches it liquidates you at 11 AM.
  • One huge day. It does not fail the Test, it raises your target. Then you spend extra sessions forcing trades to dilute it.
  • Forgetting the PRO switch. Traders pass with a style that gives back open profit, then meet intraday trailing on day one of PRO.
  • Holding into the 4:55 PM ET flatten, or into a holiday close.
  • Counter positions. Long on one account and short on another in the same or a related product is banned on Test, PRO and PRO+.
  • Trading through CPI on PRO. Our page on trading NQ during high-impact news lists the releases that move NQ most.

If you want the broader picture, why traders fail prop firm evaluations covers the habits behind most of these, and our hub on how to pass a prop firm challenge sets out a process that works at any firm.

A rule check before every entry

Before each trade on a TPT account, we would want answers to five questions:

  • How far is the minimum balance, in points, after this trade's stop? On PRO, count open profit you could give back.
  • Would a full winner make this my best day above 50% of net profit?
  • Is FOMC, NFP or CPI within the next few minutes?
  • Can I be flat before 4:55 PM ET, or before this product's own close?
  • Does the setup agree with the higher timeframe, or am I trading the 1-minute chart alone?

The last question is the one that slips when you are tired or chasing. MyTradingBuddy reads your chart across timeframes and lays out structure, key levels and the risk in the setup, so you get a calm second read before you click. It does not place trades or make the decision; the call stays yours. MyTradingBuddy is not affiliated with Take Profit Trader.
